No clue if they are still referred to as Tweets, but I've been busy since my last post about joining! I've gained a few more followers (woohoo!) and followed many more researchers and organizations. I have begun to focus on following more "canine" related researchers along with more animal advocacy groups, marine researchers, and scientists oriented around animal welfare.
I was very excited when I found Dr. Heather Browning's (Viet) profile (@zoophilosophy) because she specializes in animal welfare and sentience. It was interesting to delve into animal cognition last week, and she has been a great resource for finding additional information about animal consciousness. Despite how I love reading and learning about it, I actually didn't want to tweet about it. I feel like the information can get repetitive, and I wanted to share tweets this week that would be helpful in daily conversations. Not to say that animal cognition isn't important to discuss, but it can feel redundant if it's the only topic one can bring to the table.
This is why I decided to share infographics, interactive links, and articles to bring up both pros and cons in animal testing. My personal favorite was a link to Cruelty Free Kitty. It's an incredible site that lists hundreds of makeup, skincare, and hair care brands and whether they follow cruelty-free and vegan guidelines. The list is a simple, useful tool that anyone can use and help work towards making a difference in the cosmetic industry. Beyond what I've shared, my classmates also bring their own set of information, and I have loved commenting on and reposting their findings! Looking forward to updating you all next week :)
